Institute for Photonic Quantum Systems
Since its foundation at the end of 2018, PhoQS has been pooling expertise and skills in photonics and quantum research at Paderborn University. Thanks to an interdisciplinary team of leading experts from the fields of physics, mathematics, computer science and Electrical Engineering, PhoQS conducts excellent research in the areas of quantum simulation, communication, metrology and computing. In 2024, Germany's first light-based quantum computer (PaQS) was able to start work.
The institute in a nutshell
New research building for interdisciplinary cutting-edge research in the field of photonic quantum systems

In the international "Photonic Quantum Systems Laboratory" (PhoQS Lab), scientists from experimental and theoretical physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Mathematics will work together on an interdisciplinary basis in a building with state-of-the-art technological infrastructure. The aim is to develop new research approaches in the technological development of photon-based quantum applications and in the theoretical and experimental conceptualisation of scalable quantum photonics.
