Two groups at the Institute of Photonic Quantum Systems, Mesoscopic Quantum Optics and Integrated Quantum Optics, have collaborated on a new publication in the journal "APL Quantum". The article by Timon Schapeler analyses the assignment of photon numbers by precise time-of-arrival measurements of light pulses with a single superconducting nanowire single photon detector (SNSPD) and goes into more detail on probabilities of misassignment with different models. This is important for the development of detectors with photon number resolution and for applications such as the development of single photon sources based on parametric fluorescence.
