Dr. Michael Rüsing successfully defends his postdoctoral thesis.

Dr Michael Rüsing from the Institute for Photonic Quantum Systems (PhoQS) is part of the Integrated Quantum Optics (IQO) working group. He successfully defended his habilitation thesis on the topic of ‘Towards Quantitative Nonlinear µ-spectroscopy’ at the Faculty of Physics, TU Dresden, on 16 December. In addition to a specialist lecture and subsequent scientific discussion, the examination also included a trial lecture on the topic ‘Why coffee doesn't like to go for a walk – On the dynamics of liquids in open vessels’. Dr Michael Rüsing has thus obtained his teaching qualification in experimental physics.

Dr Michael Rüsing received his doctorate in 2018 from the University of Paderborn (AG Zrenner) on Raman spectroscopy in solids. After completing his doctorate, he spent time researching at the University of California, San Diego, USA (AG Mookherjea, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering), where he worked on the design and manufacture of integrated optical circuits. From 2019 to 2023, Dr Michael Rüsing was a member of the Institute of Applied Physics at TU Dresden, where he conducted research with Prof. Dr Lukas Eng on electrical components based on ferroelectric domains and novel spectroscopic methods. In 2023, he returned to the University of Paderborn (AG Silberhorn) and the Institute for Photonic Quantum Systems, where he is now working on the manufacture of integrated optical components based on thin-film lithium niobate. PhoQS wishes him all the best for the future.
